When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston last summer we wanted to do a flash event to benefit the Houston SPCA and all of the animals displaced by the hurricane. Flash days gave us the opportunity to raise funds while showing customer appreciation by offering tattoos that dip below our $100 shop minimum. Flash days feature pre-selected tattoo designs that artists draw, arrange to be displayed, and offer at a discount. We had run into a two main issues over the years while offering flash days. Customers would seem to gravitate toward the same design and artists would tattoo that design all day long. Clients were often so overwhelmed by the pressure of deciding what they would get, that they wouldn’t get tattooed at all.
Wanting to eliminate these issues and drawing inspiration from The Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune, we bought our very own game wheel! The artists drew small pieces of flash that would normally be priced between $100-$150 to go on the wheel and offered them for $60, but we were still unsure of how clients would respond. The event was a huge success! We donated $1,620 to the SPCA and had so much fun that we decided to make the tattoo wheel a permanent fixture. The tattoo wheel is only done as walk-ins, which means you cannot book an appointment in advance. The initial spin for each tattoo is $60, if you don’t like what the wheel lands on, you can pay $20 for each additional spin.
